Gordon Monson Is An Idiot

So, self appointed, human rights watchdog, and Tribune columnist, Gordon Monson has taken it on himself to be offended for the Ute Nation, and tell the University of Utah that it's time for the Ute name to go.  It's degrading to the Utes to be in the same category with animal nicknames like Cougars, or Eagles.

Bullshit.

He's a tsds alumni, and having spent most of this last year trying to drum up support for continuing to let that inferior institution continue to play the Utes in sports, he's now going after the symbols that mean something to his former rivals fans.

What a coup it would be for him to say he had a hand in making the Utes drop the Ute name, the feather and drum and making us change our football helmets.

The only people who have any right to say anything about the use of their name for our sports teams are the Ute Nation.  And from everything I've read in Mr. Monson's paper?  They don't have a problem with it.

I have a buddy who just got his Masters Degree from Central Michigan University.  They have the same comfortable relationship with the Chippewas in that part of the country.

So, no, the Utes do not need to become the Red tailed Hawks, or anything else for that matter.  At least not until the Ute Nation thinks they do.

Monson, and all other tsds fans need to get used to the fact that there is no longer a Utah/tsds rivalry.  It's just going to fail to exist any more.  After next year, in football the Utes will have 9 PAC 12 games, one with a Big 10 team and only two open dates.  You know one of these is going to be Southern Utah, or Northern Colorado, or Eastern Washington, or someone else from a lower subdivision, who will show up the first week of the season, take a beating, and a paycheck, and not hurt us in the national rankings.

The other game?  Well, I'd like to see it be Utah State.  It would help them out, and the Utah fans I know root FOR them in all their other games.  It's really a battle of the brothers, and not a holy war.  And I for one, am tired of the holy war.  We've moved on.   Time to leave that behind as well.

So Monson can keep hoping if not to prop up tsds, since he has no national clout (just like tsds), he can at least keep trying to somehow hurt Utah.  Good luck with that.

I have to go.  I just got an email from PETA.  Something about a school with a lousy academic rating and a football team so full of itself that no other conference in the country wants them, demeaning cougars by using them as a symbol for their athletic teams.
